If you are looking for a used muscle car, there are some factors you should know and consider. You need to critically examine the muscle car’s exterior paint its transmission and history as well.

A muscle car is a a high performance automobile. American muscle cars are loved by drivers for the pure raw power they generate, and yes their stunning beauty. The older the year of make, the rarer and more unique is your muscle car. From the Hudson Hornet to the 1957 Rambler Rebel to the 1970 Plymouth GTX 440 and so on, a muscle car is an owner’s pride and a collector’s delight. Although there has been a decline in production of the muscle cars in the 1990s, there has also been revival of the muscle cars from time to time. The latest could be Dodge’s Charger model re-introduced in 2010 and again in 2011.

If you are looking for a used muscle car for your love of the original or financial limitations, there are some factors you should know and consider. Some recommend that you should have some mechanical skills if you want to buy and own a muscle car. However, with a little deeper look you can make a sound decision to buy or not to buy the vehicle. With “a little deeper look” it means every information possibly available about the car including its VIN, transmission codes, rear end, paint, interior codes, age, number of owners, mileage and any changes made and so on.

Naive buyers are easily carried away by the exterior paint while for a smart one that is just where you start looking. There are really good paint job service providers that can easily let you get the impression they want you to. You have to be more than an admirer in such situations. Be like a jealous lover and dig up the past and every minute details. Make sure you get the VIN or Vehicle Identification Number of the vehicle. By knowing the car’s VIN, you can get an ample amount of the car’s history that can help you decide and deal better with the whole purchase.

If you have a good knowledge of the particular car model, get under the hood and check the engine, oil level and condition, leaks, engine noises, smoke etc. You can also bring along a friend who has a better idea in case you are not so confident. Get inside the car and inspect the interiors including the seats, seat belts, the doors and trunk too. Start the engine and check if the transmission of the car is still smooth. While at it, take a look at the dashboard and all the gauges as well.

It is also good to find out how many number of owners have the car served and how have they treated it. The car’s mileage will help you determine how further can it go in future, you don’t want an overdriven muscle car. However, while doing the math here, remember that mileage limit could differ from car to car. If there have been any changes made or parts replaced under the hood, find out what exactly it is and check if the alterations were made correctly.

Test driving is a good way to find out how exactly the muscle car performs on the road. While taking it for a spin, try and notice any suspicious signs with everything you come into contact with such as the acceleration, braking and suspension etc. If you are satisfied with them all, proceed to the final stage of the deal – the payment. If you are buying the car directly from the owner, see if the price is negotiable. If you found the muscle car via online ads or at a website listing for affordable used cars, see if the listed price, after the vehicle’s analysis, is still practical. Decide keeping in mind that a bad judgment could put your money and also your safety at risk.

Now that you have built and restored your muscle car, monthly maintenance is necessary to ensure that your ride is in good shape all the time. With its massive engine either naturally aspirated or turbocharged, it definitely demands frequent checks on its lubrication, cooling system to name a few due to the fact that your ride is always pushed to its maximum on the roads.

Your car battery provides constant flow of electricity to power up the ignition and all the electrical system in your car. It stored charges and discharges them when required especially during cold starts. Without it, your alternator will be severely strained thus shortening its life span due to the fact that it is required to be operational at all times. Always ensure that sulfuric acid level is at recommended level at all times to prolong it life. Always remember that, battery water is very much cheaper compared to changing the entire battery.

Braking system is ultimately vital in ensuring that massive V8 is able to stop on time in a short interval. Besides having all round ventilated discs brakes, brake pad is also a necessity to provide sufficient braking power. Frequently check for pad thinning to avoid untoward accident. Check also brake fluid located at the engine firewall to ensure it is at optimum level.

Engine oil functions to provide lubrication to your engine internal to maintain smooth operation. Without it, tear and wear at moving metal parts would kill the engine at no time. Make it a point to check your dip sticks at weekly interval to extend engine life. It is recommended to use fully synthetic oil for maximum protection especially in engine which is frequently high revved. It is highly recommended to let the engine idle during cold start for the engine to reach its optimum working temperature to prolong its lifespan.

By following these few simple rules, your beloved muscle car will definitely run more efficiently for a long time.

A muscle car is made using a lightweight chassis from an American manufacturer; a few classic choices are the AMX, charger and chevelle. It is preferably a two door sedan rear wheel drive mid size sedan from late 1960s. These cars are then stripped apart and rebuilt with massive engines from modern age. V8s, V12s are commonly installed beneath these hoods making them extremely torquey on the straights.

The following tips demonstrate how a muscle car is built from ground up.

The most fundamental yet extremely important is the selection chassis to begin with. To select a 40 yr old car with chassis still intact poses great challenge. These cars are either at scrap yards or are infested with corrosions. Check for alignment or significant distortion on chassis before purchasing one. Full restoration on is vital to ensure integrity on weldments to not fail under massive force. Strip the car down to bare bones and patch weld corroded metal parts. Perform proper surface preparations and paints as per manufacturer’s specification.

Next on the buying list is the engine. Select one that still runs healthy. Bring along a reputable mechanic to inspect for any premature defects on engine internals which are beyond repair. Crank the engine and listen for abnormal sound which it may emits signaling deformities. Ensure that the selected engine fits into the engine bay. This is extremely important to keep everything neat and closed up beneath the hood.

Strip the engine and fully rebuilt and blue print all engine internal either to OEM parts or aftermarket race parts to ensure that it will serve you well for the coming years.

With massive power behind the wheels, ensure that the suspensions and braking power are upgraded accordingly. Adjustable absorbers would be a good choice to ensure that it could be tuned according to your needs either on the track or for daily use.

Twin pot ventilated discs brakes are standards to ensure sufficient braking power. To be able to accelerate fast, you must be able to stop just as fast to avoid any untoward accidents.

Now with proper assembly, your ride will definitely not fail you when you most needed it.

Millions of lives are lost annually due to road accidents. Countless more are scarred or had had a traumatizing encounter on the road. Many factors contribute to these significant lost of lives. To name a few, lack of concentration on the road, drowsiness during long trips and driver’s lack of knowledge of their machine’s limit. When behind the wheels of a muscle car, one must exercise cautioned and greater concentration due to the massive torque powering such lightweight body. This is where great power comes great responsibility.

A muscle car is built with only one thing in mind; high horsepower and ridiculous torque. It is great to drive them on track and during drag race, but to go for long drive in your muscle car; driver’s concentration must always be at maximum all the time. It poses a great challenge to maintain this due to the fact that comfort is greatly compromised in these machines. When the body aches due to the uneven road surface, fatigues sets in. To avoid untoward accident, frequent stops are vital. Take a quick nap at fixed interval to maintain focus on the road.

A good driver would know their machine’s limit before attempting the impossible with it. When modifications and upgrades are done by the driver themselves, they would have full knowledge on the technical aspects. That way, drivers would learn skills necessary to control their machine. No doubt, to learn about the car’s limit is to push it to maximum attempting to control it well. This must only be done on the tracks and not on the streets.

Driving under the influence of any substance be it alcohol or drugs will significantly impair driver’s senses ultimately affects drivability. Brain motor function will be affected, causing driver’s slow reaction and inability to react faced with a complicated situation.

Accidents can be avoided, and your ride and you will be in one piece if all these tips were adhered.

Are you thinking about restoring a car, it’s a long road to nowhere if you don’t plan what you want your car to be first. I don’t want to scare anybody from restoring their car, but it’s a long process, if it’s not done right car restoration can be agony on your, and the shop.

You need to know if your going to customize the car, or if it’s going to be a factory stock restoration. I’ve seen a lot of people restore their cars to factory specs, only to discover that it’s not what they wanted.

A factory stock restoration is just that, you get new old car, that has the old brakes, and old style engine, and all of the rest of the old stuff. This means that the car doesn’t stop like the cars of today do, nor is it emission compliant.

You need to consider all of these things before you decide to do a factory stock muscle car restoration. If you upgrade braking systems to the newest, and best systems that you can get, your car will stop a lot better.

With one of the new create engines, you can get all of the power that you need, and still comply with the emission laws in your state. The other advantage is the fact that all create engines come with a factory warranty, this is a great thing for the customer of the shop.

You should always keep the parts that you take off the car in case you want to return it to factory stock condition. The car is worth more money if it’s returned to factory stock condition, but most people don’t plan to sell their restored cars, and we all love our toys.

If your a collector who’s in the business to retain a profit on your classic cars, it is always better to keep the car as factory stock as possible. Car restoration is fun, it doesn’t matter what you plan to do with the car when it’s done, the key factor of classic cars is to have fun with them.

In this way it doesn’t matter if your a collector, a hot rodder, or just a person who loves the classic cars; all that matters is that you get what you want when the car is done. It doesn’t matter if you want a daily driver, or a full on show car, all that matters is that it;s your car done your way.

Car Restoration

Hi performance cars are built on a new engine case unless you request a rebuilt one. And are the result of careful parts matching, and the correct combination of parts is critical. And are increased horsepower resulting from alteration to cubic inch displacement, camshafts, carburettor, or exhaust system, and that produced by the automobile manufactures. Muscle Cars are hard on clutches, the lockout clutch will eliminate excessive slipping and improve your clutch life up to 5 times longer.

One of the hottest products to emerge in recent years are steel head gaskets. This is how all engines are broken in, and today can be considered since they pull more power out then there predecessors ever did. To put into categories, most stock/street cars are 80% 85% efficient, and race motors are 90% 95%. Reliable engines are dependent upon high quality components and sub components.

RHINO Engines are built with the highest quality parts to give you the best performance and the maximum horsepower. Shipping methods are via truck freight anywhere within the contiguous 48 U. Muscle Cars are not indestructible and can break if not enough attention is given to the proper setting and use. Some motors are very susceptible to knocking because they compress the fuel/air mixture more.

All are built to strict specifications using the most precise measuring tools and devices. Industrial and performance motors are often built with larger clearances and will use more oil. All of our motors are run on our dynamometer to ensure maximum performance is realized. Stock engines are warrantied for 24 months 24,000 miles; muscle cars are warrantied for 6 months 6,000 miles. Today, performance engines are all aluminum, but the cylinder bore evenly coated with a few microns of a ceramic material such as silicon carbide.

Most all motors are high compression, but not verse verso. Ken says that most of these engines are using the valve. And are the most powerful in their class and will easily handle most demanding hills. The days of short life on high performance motors are long gone.

Built on a new motor case unless you request a rebuilt one. And are the result of careful parts matching, and the correct combination of parts is critical. And are by nature not that quiet. And are those increased horsepower resulting from alteration to cubic inch displacement, camshafts, carburetor, or exhaust system, and that produced by the automobile manufactures. Are hard on clutches, the lockout clutch will eliminate excessive slipping and improve your clutch life up to 5 times longer.

While budget plays a major part in decision making for those who want to buy classic cars, it’s often the personality of the vehicle and the buyer that need to be looked at for that perfect union to take place. So how does that tie in with Chevrolet classics?

Let’s look back at the mid 1960s. That’s when Chevrolet began production of the Corvette. It was later described as a supercar for the poor man, and far later than that sung about by none other than The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, little red versions at any rate! The Corvette offered raw power at an affordable price. Being in production for such a long time Chevy’s Corvette underwent multiple style adaptations, and even the car’s power was set won to a mere 200 horsepower in deference to the ecological interests. Corvettes manufactured today do boast superb horsepower. Are we seeing tomorrow’s classic emerging before our eyes?

Chevy’s Impalas did for tail fins what Madonna did for Jean Paul Gaultier’s conical bustier. But that image was short lived and by the early sixties the fins were discarded and the styling became more sedate.

Sedate, however, is not a term that would be applied to the Chevrolet Camaro. This was a real muscle car and its manufacture was a direct repost to the Ford Mustang and its phenomenal popularity. With a 425 horsepower V8 engine, this beast really could growl and roar.

Still on the subject of muscle cars, Chevrolet created the Nova in 1962. Sometimes also referred to as the Chevy II, the Nova was a more compact and economically priced brother to the Camaro. Later versions boasted a V8 engine which augmented the car’s performance.

And so a pattern was emerging, and this is illustrated by the introduction of the Chevrolet Chevelle which had a 396 hp engine as standard. But perhaps the biggest triumph was the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. This sleek two-door coupe is recognised as one of General Motor’s resounding successes in the eyes of the NASCAR stock car racing fraternity. The Monte Carlo was based on Chevy’s A platform. Its unique design was wrought by Elliot Estes and Dave Hollis.

Anyone who wants to buy classic cars would do well to look at what Chevrolet has offered over the years, there is something for all tastes.

Just how powerful was the Mercury Cyclone? For starters, this classic car ran in the Indianapolis 500 during its prime, and won more than its fair share of races. However, it struggled to hold a candle to such popular models as the Chevelle, GTO and Mustang. These were brand names that were burned into the psyche of many youths of the 60s and early 70s. Therefore. it was almost an impossible task for Mercury to grab the market share away from these popular models.

The production for the more famous convertibles garnered 1,305 units but what made the Mercury Cyclone reach its top sales is the production of the hardtops that garnered around 13,812 units. All these vehicles were sold and to those who were lucky to have bought them, they became quite popular.

This muscle car garnered respect because its reaches 0-60 miles per hour in just 6.7 seconds. This could be attributed to a remarkable 390 V8 335 bhp engine underneath the hood.
Curiously enough, Mercury manufactured a few challengers to its own Cyclone to be able to market them in a different way. For instance, the Mercury Comet was launched in the 70s. However, the 1970 Mercury Cyclone is known to be more elegant.

Muscle cars that were produced as early as the 1960s were mainly marketed to the young male demographic because of their speed and power, but the Cyclone had a reputation for durability and being reliable. It was more of an everyday car that you might have seen a businessman driving to work, more so than a young teen dragging it on the strip.

Like most models, the Cyclone ran its course and production ceased in 1972 as sales slowed. Even though it had to say goodbye, the Cyclone was a great car that unfortunately isn’t as well known as other muscle cars of that era. While it wasn’t the best vehicle in its class, it still receives a lot of love from many classic car enthusiast today.

Drifting is a driving technique where drifters lose traction on their rear wheels while attempting to enter and exits a corner at high speed. This driving technique was made popular by Japanese anime series “initial D” and later showcase in various blockbusters such as Fast and furious. Normally Japanese cars such as the trueno AE86, cefiro, RX7 are preferred models for drifting due to its balanced front and rear weight distribution ratio. American muscle cars are also suitable candidates due to its enormous amount of torque transmitted to rear wheel is able to slide the rear easily.

The following tips will demonstrate how drifting in a muscle car is done.

The power over steering technique is best practice using a muscle car. drive straight along a straight line, when approaching corner, turn the steering wheel to enter corner and then floor the accelerator pedal which will induce lose of traction to the rear wheel. Due to the massive torque coupled with light weight body, the car will definitely go sideway, to counter this, quickly turn the steering wheel the other way to maintain perfect racing apex.

For an amateur who is still incapable of handling the enormous torque, the handbrake technique is relatively easy to master. When approaching corner at race speed, release the accelerator pedal and depress the clutch at the same time pull the handbrake hard to induce lost of traction to the rear wheel. When exiting corner, counter steer the car and step on the accelerator and release the clutch pedal at the same time to regain control.

After mastering both the above techniques, a more advance technique which is called the clutch kick can be practice. This technique requires tapping of the clutch pedal to send shockwave to the car’s drive train thus inducing sliding of the rear wheels.

Push the accelerator and depress the clutch pedal while tapping the clutch and keeping the other foot on the gas. Control the car with the steering wheel, handbrakes or gas until the car exits corner in perfect racing line.

A lot of practice is required to attain the skill of drifting. With lots of patient and determination, one can become a professional drifter one day.
